We might not work continuously, we make mistakes and we rest on time. But the flexibility of our human hands and the intelligence of the human brain will always conquer against machines and robots. A fully automated warehouse without people. For the one it’s an Utopia for the other it’s a scary picture. People get tired and make mistakes. Machines and robots don’t, but still not can completely replace humans due to their lack of intelligence and sensitivity.
In many warehouses, the goods are already moved automatically with conveyors into the right place. On terminals or with flashing lights exactly shows what should be collected. But the last piece, actually picking up the goods, is usually done by human hands. Some suppliers have also tried to automate this last piece. Nedcon / DLS’s Order Release Module (ORM) is such a system that can collect orders fully-automatic at colli level. Robotized order-picking and selecting out different packaged items is for the time being according to all parties still a future music.
